One of the largest food and healthcare storage facilities in the region will open in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Ports Group is an industry-leading logistics hub in the UAE and the main contributor to world trade, logistics, and shipping. It has some of the top-performing container ports globally. This year, Ad Ports has confirmed that KLP21, its latest innovative warehousing and logistics center in Abu Dhabi, will be operational by the third quarter of 2022.

KLP21 is in KIZAD, which is known for being a comprehensive trading and logistics zone between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The (KLP21) facility is strategically placed across the E311 cargo transport route. It is conveniently close to the planned Regional Food Center. As a result, the facility has direct access to all key markets in Asia, Africa, and the MENA region, including the GCC. The three zones comprise an integrated consumer market of nearly 4.5 billion users. Opening the warehousing hub KLP21 in KIZAD offers the zone higher connectivity. That leverages KIZAD's position as an accessible entry to Asia, Africa, and the MENA region, which provide a market of over 4.5 billion customers.

KLP21 includes four warehouses with a capacity totaling over 80,000m2. The facility will offer one of the largest and most innovative temperature-controlled logistics centers. Reportedly, the warehouses will be able to handle over 100,000 pallets. Pallets will be distributed over a network of chambers. The chambers come with the option of independent configuration to a wide variety of sizes and temperatures ranging from -26°C to 25 °C.

The facility is designed specifically to support critical regional industries that require cold and ambient storage for chilled and frozen cargoes, such as healthcare, food and beverage, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), and specialty chemicals. The facility will offer an end-to-end set of third-party logistics (3PL) and fourth-party logistics (4PL) services, regional logistics hub operations, and value-added services to potential users such as e-packing, re-packing, specialty packaging, labeling, and others.

With direct access to two major global seaports, five international airports within 90 minutes' driving distance, queue-free multi-lane major roads, and Etihad Rail's future rail link, KLP21 will provide potential clients and users with quick and easy access to vital local, regional, and global markets. A fleet of nearly 400 transport trucks will also service the center, covering both local and cross-border movements.

The KLP21 facility will have two of its four warehouses, totaling 40,000 m2, managed by AD Ports. That is besides AD Ports’ 350,000 m2 of logistics storage capacity, including its 19,000 m2 KIZAD-based cold and ultra-cold storage facility, which has been the cornerstone of Abu Dhabi's worldwide fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Abdullah Al Hameli, Chief Executive Officer of AD Ports Group, the KLP21 development expands on AD Ports Group's portfolio of Economic Cities and Free Zones. He stated that it combines the full range of services essential for industrial enterprises to prosper in today's competitive market. The project responds to the growing consumer need for temperature-controlled storage solutions in Abu Dhabi. He also noted that “it strongly supports the safe and efficient distribution of climate-sensitive commodities in the UAE and around the region."

KIZAD is dedicated to promoting the sustainable advancement of Abu Dhabi's trade and manufacturing sectors following the Abu Dhabi Industrial Strategy. The cutting-edge facilities have also been built following the latest HSEQ and ISO standards, assuring customers that their cargoes will be handled per the highest levels of global regulatory compliance.
